I’m a late forties guy who has suffered from chronic depression for a long time. I always thought I just had a pessimistic outlook on life….but turns out I actually had increasing mental health problems.
Eventually my illness took its toll on me and my family.
Perhaps if I had been able to talk more openly with other people my depression could have been dealt with sooner.
We need more open and honest discussion, particularly among men, about the reality of mental illness if we are going to cope with our lives in increasingly stressful times.
I hope that by sharing my experience more men will feel able to talk with others about how they feel.
